The Crystal Mic Award
On March 22, 2012, WRCJ 90.9 FM, Detroit's "Classical Days, Jazzy Nights" public radio station, award its first-ever "Crystal Microphone Award" to three long-time fans of classical music. The recipients are Barbara Nickles, Lee Barthel, and Margot Kohler. Ms. Nickles and Mr. Barthel were instrumental in getting classical music back on the Detroit airwaves after the demise of WQRS in 1997. Ms. Kohler, owner of Margot European Day Spa in Birmingham, was a charter "advertiser" on WRCJ and has been an eloquent spokesperson for 90.9 FM during its on-air membership drives.
